PROJECTS
SOUTHERN CROSS STATION
In a joint venture with Queensland company, Unison Design and Constructions P/L, Barden-Steeldeck Industries were contracted by Leighton Contractors to provide the roofing to the Iconic award winning Southern Cross Station, formally known as Spencer Street Station. With 35,000 square metres of Kalzip Stucco embossed curved and tapered aluminium roofing in a wave pattern the design was challenging. An on site roll forming facility was set up nearby in Fishermans Bend, where the individually produced roof sheets were manufactured prior to transporting to site. During construction up to 25 Barden-Steeldeck (BSI) employees at a time worked on the project, during day and night shift with many undergoing ‘twin rope’ access training due to the challenging nature of the structure. The main roof took 12 months to complete, whilst our contract on site was over 3 years. As part of our contract BSI also supplied and installed permanent aluminium handrails and the aluminium access bridges across the EFTE pillow skylights. There were also new canopies over the existing rail platforms and internal roof areas completed.

WESTFIELD DONCASTER SHOPPINGTOWN
Although not involved with the roofing on this major project for Westfield Design and Construction P/L, Barden-Steeldeck Industries P/L were still involved with the supply and installation of the Danpalon polycarbonate cladding around the car park areas, and the ‘Red Wall’ cladding clearly visible at the front of the centre. The Danpalon cladding included the design, supply and installation of all support framing in aluminium, whist the ‘Red Wall’ involved over 600 square metres of coloured stainless steel panels, imported from Italy.

Appointed by the BHUGI (Baulderstone P/L and United Group) joint venture for Melbourne Water, Barden-Steeldeck Industries P/L was involved with the roofing and cladding on this project, part of the re-introduction of the Tarago reservoir into the Melbourne Water supply line. BSI undertook the design, manufacture and installation of the roof over the 72 metre diameter water tank, including the support structure (with Monks Harper Fabrications) and the Kalzip aluminium roofing, which was manufactured on site, in full length sheets across the structure. As part of the water treatment project, BSI were also contracted to supply and install the roofing and cladding to a number of plant buildings, including the Main Process Plant, Wet and Dry Chemical buildings, Centrifuge, Pump and Chlorine buildings, using Colorbond Spandek and Alucobond aluminium cladding.
